MOST schools in Canada have a very limited budget, if any, to spend to travel and recruiting players. It's in your best interest to introduce yourself, express your interest, and start building a relationship.

Coaches need to see you play; in person or on film.

Talent will catch the eye, character is what gets you where you want to go.  What skills can set you apart?

Focus on the fundamentals of your play. Play your position with confidence and consistency. Keep it simple but effective. Hard work! Coaches love players that put in effort and show passion towards their craft. Set a good example and be a good teammate. Your attitude to situations in training and matches are being observed - be mindful of who's watching and your actions towards these situations of adversity could set you apart. Leadership skills are highly sought after! Develop these!

Academically - stay on track. Setbacks happen, but set yourself a plan to ensure you reach your goals.

How do I turn "Interest" into "OFFERS?"

Coaches can track you for months before deciding to offer a scholarship.

"Interest" means they've seen or heard something about you from a trusted source, and have added you to their "Watch" List. Recruiting for programs happens 365 and they are gathering information at all times.

Once you are on their listing, they will typically start reaching out to you through various connections.

You move up and down this listing by:

  • need of position
  • ability
  • character
  • academics
  • interest from competing schools
