Jason Makrinos

SAFETIES COACH @ Kent State University

About

Jason Makrinos joined the Kent State football coaching staff as Safeties coach in January 2021. He returns to Kent State University where he served as a graduate assistant during the 2007 season.

He spent the previous five years as the defensive coordinator and the defensive backs coach for the Findlay Oilers, a Division-II school in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference.

Under Makrinos, the Oilers made the Division-II playoffs for the first time in program history. During his five years in Findlay, the Oilers’ defense rose over 100 spots in total defense rankings and twice led the GMAC in total defense. Makrinos coached 14 All-Conference players, three All-Region players, two All-Americans and two Players of the Year.

Prior to Findlay, Makrinos had stops at Duquesne University (FCS) and Slippery Rock University (Division-II). Makrinos transformed both defenses into top-25 units in several defensive categories. His Slippery Rock defense led Division-II in pass efficiency in 2013 and earned a Division-II playoff berth for the first time in 14 years.
