Joe Klanderman

Defensive Coordinator at Minnesota State University

About

Joe Klanderman is in his third season as the defensive backs coach at North Dakota State. He was part of NDSU's fourth straight FCS national championship team in 2014 as the Bison went 15-1 overall and won the Missouri Valley Football Conference with a 7-1 mark.

Klanderman led a defensive backs unit that helped North Dakota State rank sixth nationally in passing defense and fifth in interceptions. Strong safety Colten Heagle was named All-America, free safety Christian Dudzik was all-conference, and cornerback CJ Smith led the conference with 17 pass breakups.

Klanderman was a three-year starter on the defensive line for Minnesota State Mankato from 1997-01 and was on the Mavericks staff for 12 seasons since 2002.

He was a defensive line coach until moving to the secondary in 2005 and was elevated to the defensive coordinator role in 2007 as well as coaching the linebackers.

Klanderman earned a bachelor's degree in social studies in 2001 and a master's degree in sports administration in 2004 from MSU.
