Laura Kurz

Women's Assistant Basketball Coach at Drexel University

About

Laura Kurz has been with the Drexel University women’s basketball program as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator under head coach Amy Mallon since April 2020. Kurz helped lead the Dragons to a CAA Championship title for the first time since 2009, and their second NCAA Tournament berth in school history, finishing 14-9.

Kurz previously spent five years as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Villanova University. At Villanova, Kurz assisted with on-court duties, scouting opponents, inputting game strategy, player development and film analysis while serving as the program’s recruiting coordinator. From 2012-2014, Jurz assisted at Lehigh University and then was a Development Associate at Penn Charter High School.

Kurz played for both Villanova and Duke University. During her two seasons on the Main Line, she scored 1,064 points in 66 career games for an average of 16.1 points per contest and shot .471 from the field (403-of-855) and .357 from three-point range (100-of-280). She also tallied 449 rebounds, 84 assists and 73 blocks. Kurz led the Wildcats to the 2009 NCAA Tournament by averaging a team-best 17.4 points per game and a team-high 7.2 rebounds per contest. For her efforts in 2008-09, she was an Honorable Mention All-American, Naismith Player of the Year nominee, All-Big East First Team member and Big 5 Player of the Year.

Kurz graduated from Villanova in 2009 where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Communications. She also has a Master of Science degree in Sports Business from New York University.
