Introduction to the recruiting process

Welcome to the recruiting process. It can seem overwhelming; but we are here to help.

Our focus for this program will be strictly on the Canadian Landscape of post-secondary soccer with references to women's soccer. That being said, it can be used for men's soccer but not all information shared may be applicable or accurate.

First and foremost: Student + Sport = "Student-Athlete"

You need both to be considered.

Are you prepared to put the work in on both of these areas?

The aim of the recruitment process involves two steps in this order:

1. Offered a roster spot

2. Discussion of athletic funding

Grades πŸ“š+ Ability πŸ“ˆ+ Character βœ…= "DOLLARS" πŸ’°

The Mirror Test - an honest self-reflection

You must have talent to play post-secondary soccer. The game is faster and more athletic than high school or club.

The competition level is high at all levels. There is always competition to earn a roster spot; keep a roster spot; make the travel team, etc. You need to be a competitor!  Every day!

University coaches are looking for athletes who are determined, dedicated and have passion; who can handle pressure!  Do you have these skill sets? How are you consistently developing them?

⭐️ Check out this athlete self-reflection journal for assistance in this area.

How's your tactical awareness?

Do you have vision of the field and can you read the game cues?

Can you play multiple positions?

How's your physical play to deal with speed & size?

How's your time management? Can you handle the demands of school stress and training load?

How are your grades? Are they consistent? Are they good enough to meet the program requirements?

Likely, the coach will be selecting student-athlete "Y".

The more consistency you can show in your play, your actions and your grades - the greater the chance the coach can TRUST you. And with trust, comes more opportunity.
