From the previous coursework we provided you a guide as to what you should be considering for schools based on your own individual timeline. If you don't remember, review the previous modules once again to get this information.

Below you will find some examples of a matrix or spreadsheet to start the process of listing and identifying some schools you might be considering. As you start to gather information from the schools on their website and other resources - you'd be wise to start to populate and gather information.

What do you know about the school?

Some considerations when researching schools you might be interested are:

  • What's the style of play?
  • what are the historic stats of the program over the past 3 years?
  • Is the roster size consistent?
  • Is the roster size larger than 24?
  • What's the ratio of 1st and 2nd year players to 3rd and 4th year players?
  • Do any of the 1st and 2nd year players see the field getting match minutes?
  • If you are a goalkeeper... how many goalkeepers are on the roster? Does only 1 play primarily?
  • Does the coach only play 11 players or does the entire roster see minutes?
  • How many players are at each position? if you are a forward but they only play with one and they have 3 older players already...where might you fit in that roster?
  • How many of the players on the roster are local?
  • How long has the coach been in the position?
  • Is the coach full-time with the school? Does this matter to me?
  • What's the coach's background?  Does this align with what I want out of my next coach?
  • Could you get a match video from the coach to view or go in person to watch them play? Does the style match what the coach says?
