In this course Coach Aikens takes you through specific rotational shot put drills that will help to develop the more advanced thrower. Coach Aikens has used these drills to help take his throwers to the next level. Five of coach Aikens throwers have thrown over 61 feet and to many to count have thrown over 55 feet and they all used these drills.
Jim Aikens has been coaching high school throws since 1984. He has been the head coach at William Fremd High School in Palatine, Illinois since 1990. During this time Jim’s throwers have medaled at national competitions, won four state championships and 20 other state medals. Jim's throwers have also won numerous sectional and conference championships. Jim has had 5 throwers toss the shot 61 feet or better and numerous throwers over 55 feet. Jim has earned his USA Track & Field Level 1 and Level 2 certification. In 2014 Jim was chosen as one of the eight finalist for the National High School Coaches Association coach of the year. He has also served as President for the Illinois Track and Cross-Country Coaches Association and is a member of their Hall of Fame. Jim is currently the Illinois representative for the National Throws Coaches Association. Coach Aikens Retired as head coach of Fremd High School in 2017. He is currently the Throws Coach at Burlington Central High School in located in Hampshire, Illinois. Coach Aikens has published several articles and videos about the throws and training for the throws and is a much sought after clinician on the throwing events..
