The Coach

Coach Billy Nelson is a steeplechaser who set multiple athletic records during his career. He discovered steeplechase during high school when local meets offered the event on a unique grass-covered water pit. Being challenged, he embraced the event and brought his passion to the University Of Colorado when he trained under coach Mark Wetmore. He quickly excelled in steeplechase during his junior year. His journey evolved from mastering race strategies and hurdling techniques to having a successful professional career as a coach. His career highlights includes being the 2011 champion in the steeplechase, 2007 Big 12 steeplechase championship, winning the 2003 USA Junior 5,000m title,and placing 33rd at the 2002 World Cross Country Championships, 2001 California State XC Championship, 5 time big 12 championship, 2006 NCAA championships and 6 time NCAA All American. His training style emphasizes a solid basis for long-term performance, strategic racing and discipline.
