    • Gymnastic Basics: Forward and Backward Rolls
      • Rolling Drills- These drills prepare your cheerleader for the forward and backward rolls.
      • One- Bend down with both hands on the ground, grab the knees and roll on the back while keeping nice and round (it allows your cheerleader to stand back up).
      • Two- Place both hands above the ears, bend the knees and extend into the backward roll position with hands behind the ears.

      Forward Roll:
      • Start with hands above the head.
      • Place hands on the ground and bend at the knees.
      • Tuck the chin into the chest and push off the toes into a rolling position and stand up.

      Backward Roll:
      • Place both hands above the ears.
      • Bend at the knees rolling into a backward position with hands behind ears and knees tucked.
      • Lift the body off with the shoulders and over into a tucked position and stand up.

      Coaching Tip:
      Keep the head tucked in and the chin to the chest. Keep all weight in the hands and shoulders when transferring weight during rolls.
