    • Drill 1:

      Objective

To have the striker dribble at game speed to score 1 v. 1 against the goalkeeper.

      Coaching Points

Attack at speed, go straight at the goalkeeper to open up an angle. Look up to see the goalkeeper's distance and angle. Shoot early and use basic passing technique into the bottom corner.

      Problems to Watch Out For

Players will slow down or almost stop before shooting - this is unrealistic because during a game defenders would be pursuing the ball.

      Why This Works

This drill covers a match-realistic situation.

      Drill 2:

      Objective

To have the striker dribble and shoot to score in a breakaway situation before the defender can recover and win the ball.

      Coaching Points

Attack at speed, go straight at the goalkeeper to open up an angle. Look up to see the goalkeeper's distance and angle. Shoot early and use basic passing technique into the bottom corner. Cut in front of the recovering defender.

      Problems to Watch Out For

Players will rush the attempt on goal because they usually have more time than they realize.

      Why This Works

Adding the element of a trailing defender makes the situation even more game-realistic.
