Rolling Ball Out to Striker for Shot

     view description
    • Objective

To strike the ball cleanly and with good technique, achieving a low and straight trajectory toward the target.

      Coaching Points

To allow an approach to the ball, take a good first touch out from your feet - 1 o'clock for right-footed strikes, 11 o'clock for left-footed strikes. Lean forward with your head over the ball and your non-striking foot planted and pointing at your partner. Strike the middle of the ball with the laces of your shoe and follow through to your target with toes down.

      Problems to Watch Out For

The first touch out from the foot will be too far, not far enough or not at a good angle, which does not allow for proper assessment of how players are striking the ball.

      Why This Works

Players are given an opportunity to practice getting the required first touch that enables a good strike. Players are given an opportunity to practice striking the ball cleanly at a target without having to worry about defenders or scoring.
