    • Drill 1:

      Objective

To keep the ball low and on target.

      Coaching Points

Use a one o'clock angle on the approach to the ball, planting the non-kicking foot beside the ball. Leaning  forward, strike through the middle of the ball with the laces of the shoe. Follow through with a run toward the target.

      Problems to Watch Out For

Players will try to strike the ball too hard. Players should learn they can use the speed of the moving ball to their advantage.

      Why This Works

Players are given time to work on striking the moving ball before defenders are introduced to add pressure.

      Drill 2:

      Objective

To keep the ball low and on target.

      Coaching Points

Use a one o'clock angle on the approach to the ball, and when under pressure strike with the foot nearest to the ball (a player can use other foot with time).  Plant your non-kicking foot beside the ball.  Leaning forward, strike through the middle of the ball with the laces of the shoe. Follow through with a run toward the target.
