The Tex-Bone is triple option for the 21st century
Combines traditional option with modern spread into a Texas-sized offense that leaves defenses scrambling to cover it all
--> Marriage of triple option and spread formations.
--> Traditional option schemes; non- traditional option alignments.
--> Spread defensive philosophies provide predictable alignments.
--> Unpredictable to defend - every play could be spread or option-based.
Running triple option out of shotgun eliminates the need to motion the running back into pitch postion
Drawback of flexbone is not knowing how the team you're going to play is going to line up....
But spread formations are easy to predict how your opponent is going to line up

The Tex-Bone is triple option for the 21st century
Combines Traditional Option with Modern Spread in a Texas-sized offense that leaves defenses scrambling to cover it all
POWER OPTION
The TEX-BONE System is built upon the POWER OPTION play. The TEX-BONE is the First Option System to use Power as its base scheme.
BENEFITS
--> Creates Horizontal space across the line of scrimmage which creates large running lanes for dive back and a wider alley for the Quarterback.
--> Good vs every front; RUN IT AGAINST ANYTHING ANYTIME.
--> Good against blitz. NO CHECKS, EVER !!! You can always run it the way it was called.
--> Rule based play. Offensive players do not slow down if defense shifts.
--> Easily paired with play-action and other run plays...These have been around longer than Jon Gruden's "Spider 2Y Bananna!"
Coach Austin goes over in great detail the concepts behind Double & Triple Option.

ECONOMY OF TECHNIQUES
The Tex-Bone has very few techniques to teach. These few techniques apply to all the different plays.
Rules are the same no matter where they line up.
ADAPT OFFENSE TO YOUR PERSONNEL
So many coaches are stubborn and try to make their players fit the offense they run. How many teams try to run No-Huddle, Spread Air Raid with a 5'8" QB, receivers with 5 flat 40-times, and 190-lb linemen?
The TEX-BONE for the 21ST CENTURY is able match the genetics of your players to roles that they're well suited for. If a player is not great on the pitch, for example, we don't ask him to be our pitch player.
You find the parts of the offense this offense match your players for that year.
It's like the tool box in your garage. There are tools that you don't use every year.
TEX-BONE system is that tool box. Every year you might use a different tool, but the SYSTEM never changes.

G-LOAD OPTION is The Swiss Army Knife of the Tex-Bone
BENEFITS
--> It is a Rule Based Play, allowing your players to be aggressive. CAN BE BLOCKED versus ANY FRONT.
--> Good against every front or blitz. With Just a Few Adjustments, the G-Load Option can adapt to whatever front or pressure they see in front of them.
--> Always sounds on the backside because it's a gap scheme.
--> Natural play action progressions for big plays.

The “Smash – Mouth” Down Hill play of the Tex–Bone
BENEFITS
--> Two pullers allows for a playside DOUBLE TEAM (vertical displacement),
--> Good against every front – no checks!!!
--> BUILT-IN BLITZ PROTECTION. Good versus any pressure because LB'ers are accounted for by Wings and pulling Guard.
MULTIPLE BALL CARRIERS
--> QB can run the ball on this play out of Empty Sets.
--> FB carries ball downhill at the double team with puller in front.
--> Wildcat.
MULTIPLE FORMATION STRUCTURES
--> with or without a TIGHT END.
The Tex-Bone is triple option for the 21st century
This new system combines traditional option with modern spread into a Texas-sized offense that leaves defenses scrambling to cover it all
Speed Option evolved from the University of Nebraska I-Back to the Spread Offenses who eliminated the lead back altogether.
This play is a GREAT solution to defensive pressure and line game movements.
It is basically an Outside zone play with reach and scoop blocking.
Contain player become pitch key, which is usually the defenive end.
BENEFITS
--> Gets to the edge really fast. This stops defenses from "back-gapping" or blitzing LB'ers into inside gaps.
--> Dissuades pressure and line games. A defense who loops or twists away from the play is dead in the water.
--> Can be executed from any formation/personnel.
--> Multiple backfield alignments allowing you to be very multiple.

POWER READ adds Diversity to the spread run game
Power Read has become the Power Play of One-Back spread football.
DOUBLE OPTION PLAY.
Typically, a running back runs a sweep path with the quarterback serving as the dive back.
Rather than blocking the contain player, the contain player is the “optioned”. If this contain player doesn't tackle the Running Back who is running sweep to the sideline, the QB will hand it off to that back.
If the contain player starts to chase the sweeping back, the QB pulls and runs off-tackle as a dive back.
TEX-BONE
The Power Read adapts TEX-BONE's base option play to spread & empty formations, and adds motions.
Can also be ran from option-heavy formations.
SEVERAL perimeter blocking options. (3 vs 3 stalk, 3 vs 3 cross, 3 vs 3 crack-kick).

VEER option ran out of PISTOL & SHOTGUN Formations
Ran at BOTH the 1 and 3-techniques !!!
ONE OF SIMPLEST BLOCKING SYSTEMS IN ALL OF FOOTBALL
Do Your Linemen Play Slow and Are Not Aggressive?
Could It Be Because they are confused and thinking to much?
--> VEER uses a Simple Down blocking scheme that goes super fast through to the Linebackers
--> Can be run at One-Tech or Three-Tech with no changes.
--> No pulling linemen takes care of inside blitzing and forces LB'ers to stay home.
What Are You Doing vs "SQUEEZE & SCRAPE" defenses?
Coach Austin's answer can be used by INSIDE ZONE teams
HISTORY
Split Back Veer from Under Center emerged in the 1960's, credited to head coach Bill Yeoman of University of Houton. Fellow Hall-of-Fame coach Tom Osborne used the Veer extensively, winning several national titles at University of Nebraska out of the I-Back formation. The Veer gained notoriety in the spread genre when Rich Rodriguez ran it at West Virginia.
HOW TO COACH THE PLAY
What good is game film or drawings on a paper if YOU CAN'T COACH IT IN PRACTICE???

BENEFITS OF ISO

Downhill aggressive scheme that can neutralize guard keys.
Multiple formations, multiple ball carriers that disguise your other plays and induce beneficial LB reaction.
The TEX-BONE has an OPTION component to the ISO.
The RB or the QB can run the ball.
COUNTER

Course 9 is the PLAY ACTION PASSES off Power Option and Power Read
Pass Protection & Route Combos. Including Blitz pickups.
Game footage shows examples of how to sell the play action pass by making the protections look like Power Option and Power Read run.
5-man Protections allows offense to get 5 receivers into the pass routes.
POWER OPTION PROTECTION pulls the backside Guard to the playside C-gap and asks the FB to pickup the LB.
POWER READ PROTECTION also pulls the backside Guard to playside C, however RB is faking the sweep instead of blocking a LB.
SHORT & INTERMEDIATE PASS CONCEPTS
--> Flood & Quick Dig Concepts.
--> Vertical Seams.
--> Downfield Shots.
You will see the pass route combos and how to read the defense.

--> Motion to Wing.
--> Same Side Wing.

Game Plan Consideration & Ready list
When you game plan each week there are a few things to consider when you run the Tex-Bone. Every play is unpredictable to defend, every play could be spread or option-based. “Stop the option defense” leads to big plays in play action. This is two offenses, with one set of players. There are multitude of ways to organize a play call menu, in this course we will discuss what we feel works best for us and how it can help you with your game plan for next season.
