    • Drill Objective
This drill teaches players how to select the proper controlling technique when the ball approaches. It also gives players practice getting into position and executing various control techniques.

      Drill Set-Up
The coach can present the concept that the soccer ball is like an egg, and should be treated as such for control. Presenting an unyielding body part when controlling will pop the ball back into the air - cracking the egg, as it were. Rather, players should practice presenting a cushioned surface to the ball, giving with it as it drops to the ground.
For this drill, players can station themselves within a 20-x-20-yard area. Each player has a ball. With direction from the coach, players first practice stationary controlling with the foot. Players should feed the ball to themselves by throwing it up an appropriate height. Practice should be on both the left foot and the right foot. Progress to dribbling before the control. Players dribble around the area and, upon command by the coach, pick up the ball, feed it to themselves, and control the ball with the designated foot.

      Drill Progressions
From there, move on to stationary control with the thighs. Again, both the right thigh and the left thigh should be used. Next, progress to having players dribbling before controlling with the thigh, as was done with the foot. The last body part to introduce and practice is the chest. Follow the same progression. Finally, the coach can have the players dribble around and call out the body part(s) the players should use to control.
