    Run the Gauntlet Drill

     view description
    • Run the Gauntlet Drill:

The purpose of the drill is for players to develop deception, feints and ways to overcome an opponent.

One offensive player at a time attempts to keep the ball inbounds and dribble through the first two defenders and shoot for a goal against the 'keeper. Defensive players try to disrupt the dribbler.

Successful offensive players will use feints, turns, changes in speed and other deceptive moves to score goals. Score can be kept for this drill, if it's appropriate for your team.
An offensive player receives 1 point for each defender beaten. So, beating the first defender earns 1 point, beating the first and second defenders earns 2 points total, and beating both defenders and scoring a goal on the 'keeper earns 3 points total.

The next offensive player begins after the first one completes his round. Rotate positions after three rounds, so that all kids get to play both offense and defense. For this drill, the defensive players are considered 'passive' because they cannot move off their line, but only from side to side, like a crab.
