Lesson 14:
14. Power Lay in Drill
The Power Layin Drill is to help with timing of a rebound and getting a put-back basket.
The coach will throw the ball to hit the opposite side of the backboard. Players are on the other side of the lane waiting in a stance with hands up
1st time through Players will go back up quickly like a pogo stick. Keeping the ball high and not staying on the ground long. But grip the ball.
2nd time through Players will rebound and go back up quick after coming down with the rebound. Landing in a wide base and being strong with the ball.
3rd time through. Players will grab the rebound, shot fake. On the shot fake teach your players to keep knees bent, the ball tight to the body and on the shot fake don’t come out of the stance. Just take the ball above the forehead on the shot fake. Teaching to show the ball but keeping the ball strong to the body
4th time through Shot fake and go to the other side of the rim. players make a strong two hand dribble going under the rim. Shoulders stay parallel to the backboard.
5th time through. Catch and shoot the ball in or dunk it if they can. This action occurs often in a game so this is a great way to teach habits of catching and putting the ball back in the basket.
