Lesson 9:
9. Run to the Post
Run to the Post Drill focus on getting down the floor, locating the defender and holding the seal.
If there is a defender in the paint we want to post up and bury the defender under the rim.
If the pass is not available once a player runs to the rim then they will post up on the block outside the lane.
They find the defender seal and hold.
The areas of technique here are
1. Run to the Defender. If they are in the paint you will run directly at them. If they are on the block go immediately and post them up
2. Sealing out the defender. Make contact and work on holding the seal.
3. Making a strong move to the basket. Using no dribbles or only one dribble. This is coming down on a break or quickly posting and the fewer dribbles keep the defense away to get a chance at a steal.
On the catch, the goal is to get a shot toward the basket.
When you catch in the post or post area the objective is to shoot the ball closer to the rim than where you received the ball.
My message to Post Players is about finishing strong. To run the floor, and fight for position and complete the play by making a strong move to the basket.
