    Sideways and Tambo

     view description
    • These are drills designed to be fast moving and to make players make the next play after they either make a mistake or experience success; the next play is the most important play. Coaches you need to swallow your whistle a bit here and let them play with coaching on the run; that will be very hard initially until they learn the drill.
      Sideways:

      Set Up:
      • Half of your team in one color
      • Half of your team in another color
      • You should have positions split in half and half of each in each color
      • On the right hander's side you will have 3 lines of Green
      • On the right hander side you will have 2 lines of White
      • The Green lines are: GLE, 10 yards above GLE, and Time line all just outside of hash mark
      • Coaches with ball at Rydo and Timeline
      Drill:
      • Coach sounds whistle and throws a ball to a Green, offensive, player
      • The players play a 3 v 2; They play to score
      • No players in Green, on offense, can cross the Rydo line
      • After an allotted time, have 3 lines of White, and 2 lines of Green
      • After an allotted time, move lines to the lefty side of the goal
      • As soon as one group is done, blow whistle signaling end of group and the start of next group
      Options:
      • Have lines on each side of the goal
      • If the team on offense scores all players stay on the field; reward them for scoring
      • Keep Score
      Issues:
      • You will begin to see lefties on offense on the righty side will stay in the middle line and stand on Rydo
      • Same for rightys on the lefty side of the field
      • A coach has to stand on Rydo and be the judge, if Rydo is crossed blow it dead
      • It teaches defenders to play the guys closer to the goal
      • If they continue to charge at top player, they will throw it to the guy next to the goal
      • Makes offense make the "One More" pass under duress: decision making

Tambo: This is fun, the players like this drill. Let it run, let them get after each other

Set Up: 4 Lines Rydo line and Timeline Lefty wing Righty wing 5 yards below GLE on Hash mark Jersey colors do not matter Everyone plays from all lines Players rotate line clockwise Positions do not matter Coach with balls at Rydo line and Timeline To start drill place 2 players on defense inside

Drill: Coach throws ball in to start play It is a 3 v 2, the 2 wings and Rydo-Timeline players vs. the 2 "defenders" Once that play is dead, either due to score, throw away, shots that missed the goal Coach blows a whistle signaling end of the play and the start of next play All players in the play run off field, except the last guy to touch ball on offense, he stays and plays defense The first player in the line below GLE comes out and plays defense The first player in the 2 wing lines and from the Rydo-Timeline line are on offense

Issues: Players will not rotate lines well Offensive players, attack, will not rotate to the defense line Last player to touch the ball will forget he has to play defense Lefties will stay on left side of field Righties will stay on the right side of the field When ball goes on ground they stop; don't allow that.

Options: Each time "last player to touch ball" forgets to play D, entire team runs a double: motivation You cannot keep score since there aren't colors You can do this with entire team You can do with only with short poles Great shooting drill If you score you get to stay on the field vs. the same 2 defenders
