Lesson 5:
Unwind to Loaded Left Leg
Coming out of the back of the ring on balance is key to the success of the throw. This drill is great for developing the proper position of balance when coming out of the back. A loaded left leg is key for proper left leg drive out of the back and this drill helps to develop that. The key point is the athlete should think about driving the left knee down toward the surface as they turn out of the back. The coach should see a deep shin angle and a straight vertical line from the thigh all the way up to the armpit. They should use the wall for support. For an added emphasis on this drill the athlete can then drive the right leg (thigh leading) ahead of the left.
