    Forward Stride: C-Cut Drill

     view description
    • Forward Stride: C-Cut Drill

This drill helps to reinforce the importance of a powerful stride and powerful edges.

Start players in a hockey position with one hand on their stick, knees bent.

Have them push their foot out in a C, bring their foot back beneath their shoulder, then push out with the other foot, again in an exaggerated C shape.

This drill isolates each leg by itself, ensuring that players are fully extending their leg and bringing it back underneath them.

A common mistake for younger players is to start with the feet too wide apart, and taking shorter, yet quicker strides.

Correct this by emphasizing technique: feet under their shoulders, knees bent, long stride, and bringing your foot back under your shoulder.

      Coaching Tip:

One last thing to emphasize is that players shouldn't be bouncing between their strides. They should keep their bodies low and balanced through this drill.
