Lesson 6:
Jump Sticks Drill
Jump Sticks Drill
Start your players off in a hockey position and have them drop their sticks next to them.
Then have them simply make a two-footed hop over their stick.
While they are hopping, make sure to emphasize that they start with their knees bent and end with their knees bent.
Hopping over their sticks is fun for the players and emphasizes how success in this drill depends on proper technique. Players who master keeping themselves balanced, while keeping their knees bent, will be able to stay on their feet.
Coaching Tip:
Starting or ending your practice with this kind of a drill really helps reinforce the importance of maintaining a balanced and athletic hockey position.
