Week Six: Defense Introduction

Use the drills and skills in this week to teach your players how to play defense. We'll start by looking at basic techniques for footwork and body positioning in small-sided work and then progress to strategies for team defense. It's important that players feel comfortable with these basic defensive skills before moving onto more advanced concepts in the next section. As you incorporate these exercises into your practice sessions, be sure to encourage communication between your players on the defensive side. Teaching players to coordinate and cooperate in practice will pay off in game situations and help to prevent defensive breakdowns.
