  A pitcher must have a lot of acceleration and drive with the leg.
  
  It's 8-10 mph slower than the fastball.
  
  Tip: There are many different kinds of change-ups, but the most important aspect is to shorten the stride a little bit. Plant the stride foot firm in the ground. A pitcher wants to create a strong front side to take all the speed. It is important to keep the arm speed and motion going at the same speed as a fastball. The shorter stride and strong front side will help take speed off the ball.
