5v5 Keep Away with Double Teams

Drill Set up:

  • 16 yard x 16 yard area
  • 5v5
  • Offense must set picks
  • Defense must double team when offense sets a pick
  • Each pass equals one point
  • Double team equals 2 points
  • Play to 21
  • Ball is live until change of possession or out of bounds

This is a phenomenal environment to develop both sides of the ball!

Offensively, your players will learn how to possess the ball under pressure, completing passes and to handle double teams in a confined space. Off ball players learn how to get each other open with picks/slips/seals and the communication that goes along with it.  Dodging in this drill is developed as well but in an interesting way.  It's not your classic run hard dodging but rather a kind of control over your defender to buy time for a pick or a pass.  The ability to fake your way through doubles and have the poise to initiate contact, post up, or hostage dribble when running our of space are amazing skills learned in this drill.  Last,an intangible you will notice going on in this video from the offense is "Baiting" which helps the offense navigate the pressure and the doubles.

Defensively your players will learn to communicate, check, hold, double team and rotate while putting pressure on the adjacent passes.
