In the NBA, the first to embrace Mindfulness and implement it at the organizational level was Phil Jackson. Coach Jackson is an absolute pioneer and was the first to integrate Mindfulness into the overall structure of an NBA team to improve collective performance.
He helped to unlock his Bulls & Lakers teams’ full potentials by enhancing pre-game and In-game play, leveraging leading-edge mind-body techniques.
Jackson opened the door for Kobe and Mike for realizing their full potential as players, while simultaneously becoming the winningest coach in NBA history (11 World Championships).
Kobe & Mike would have been two of the greatest whether they played for Phil or not. However, there is an undeniable rub here…
Both Jordan and Kobe combined for a total of 11 NBA Championships, 8 Finals MVP’s, 21 NBA All-First Teams, and 65,000+ points, most of which were tallied while playing for Jackson. BOTH men hired a full-time Mindfulness coach during and after their tenure with Jackson, continuing the trend to train the mind to produce High-Performance.
We have heard the stories...these players were killers on the court.
The reason, both guys mastered the Mind, and in doing so, gained an advantage over every other opponent that they faced.
Retiring in 1999, Jordan employed Mindfulness for AT LEAST 20-30 years before anyone in the mainstream even began to sniff out its effectiveness in improving athletic performance. Kobe, always mimicking Jordan, hired Jordan’s Mental Coach early on in his career.
The bottom line: Kobe and Mike have been ahead of the curve, AND Coach Jackson, the winningest coach in professional basketball history, used Mindfulness as an integral part of his Team's Program.
