Lesson 12:
Why it Works Part #2
Why it Works - Part #2
A High-Performance Mindfulness example. Two past players that I have worked with at the college level both stepped to the foul line during key moments of High-School State and City-Championship games respectively. Both players missed their go-ahead free-throws that would have won the championship for their teams'.
Losing those Championships, the players felt like they had let their teammates down.
The emotions of nervousness and fear of failure stuck with these players long into their high-major college basketball careers. Stepping to the foul-line continued to bring up unwanted feelings from the past for these players, which adversely affected their confidence and their free-throw percentage. No amount of practice on the court was able to produce improvement.
It wasn't until those players honed their focus and neutralized those past emotions from those high-school championship games, did they begin to substantially improve their foul-line percentage.
This dynamic holds throughout a player’s game and throughout the team dynamic.
HPM works. It can help you, Coach, help your players and your team, own the mental and emotional state, and better manage their Mindfulness Game. This will help to improve: focus, confidence, leadership and on-court performance.
