    Eyes Down Reaction Receiving

     view description
    • The Eyes Down Reaction Receiving Drill is great for improving reaction time, decision making, hand eye coordination and soft hands.

The catcher starts with their head down and on the verbal call of "ball," looks up to see what type of ball and where the ball is flying.  They adjust to the location and do their best to be quick enough to either "paddle it" (keep their hand open and let it hit their palm) or receive it.  In the video, if it was a tennis ball the catcher was to receive the ball and if it was a small, foam ball, he was to "paddle it."

You can perform the drill with only one type of ball to simply focus on reaction time and soft hands or advance it like in the video and add in the decision making component.
