Lesson 33:
Jump Pivot Reaction Receiving
The Jump Pivot Reaction Receiving Drill is a great way to extend the has the Eyes Down Reaction Receiving Drill by adding in the conditioning component of the jump pivot.
The catcher starts with their back to their partner or coach and on the verbal call of "ball," spins around (jump pivots) to see what type of ball is flying at them. In this example, if the ball was a small, yellow foam ball, the catcher was to "paddle it" and keep his hand open. If it was a tennis ball, he was to receive it.
You can perform the drill with only one type of ball and simply work on reaction time and receiving but adding in the quick decision making component advances the drill making it more challenging.
