Jump Pivot Receiving with Mitt & Baseballs
The Jump Pivot Receiving Drill is a great way to work on reaction time, quickness and ability to quickly adjust to pitches away from where you're expecting them.
The catcher starts with their back to their partner or coach and on the verbal call of "ball," spins around (jump pivots) to see where the pitch is going. They react, move to the ball and receive.
You can make the drill easy by giving them plenty of time to react and adjust by calling ball and then flipping the baseball. Or make it more challenging by calling ball AS you are flipping the ball to give them less time to react and adjust.
