Lesson 7:
No Hands Blocking
Our goal when blocking is to "catch it" with our belly button. A very common mistake is for the catcher to try to catch it with their mitt by either picking it or dropping to their knees and then moving their mitt behind the ball.
The body is bigger than the mitt so I always encourage the catcher to get their body behind the ball and do what they gotta do to make it hit their belly button.
A great drill to practice this is No Hands Blocking. Taking the mitt all the way out of the equation forces the catcher to use their body.
I always recommend using tennis balls or wiffle balls for this drill to help prevent injuries.
