Lesson 10:
One Knee Lateral Knee Slides
There will be instances when the game situation (batters count, base runner location, score, pitcher and pitch type) that call for the catcher to set up on one knee in order to increase the chances to get a strike call.
With that said, sometimes the pitcher will miss their spot and bounce the pitch. The catcher needs to be able to move laterally to block when needed.
A good way to practice the movements and develop strength in the muscles needed to move laterally is a simple Lateral Knee Slide exercise.
The catcher should figure out what works best for them as far as foot position, amount of leg extension and body weight distribution. They need to determine what set up will give them the best opportunity to move laterally in a quick and explosive manner.
The catcher can perform anywhere between 8-15 reps in each direction depending on if they are warming up or actually working out.
