    Traditional Secondary Stance Fundamentals

     view description
    • Key components to the traditional secondary stance:

      1. Feet wider than the knees,
      2. Butt up off of the back of the legs or knee savers,
      3. Sides of the stomach touching the tops of the thighs,
      4. Receiving elbow in front of the left knee (not inside or outside of the knee),
      5. Throwing hand behind the thigh or leg.

Every catcher is a little different as far as hip mobility, ankle mobility and fitness level.  Point being, each catcher needs to find a position that is close to the above criteria but also comfortable for them.  I call it "finding their sweet spot."

Note: There will be times when the catcher is in "throwing mode" and they will stagger their stance a little more (drop the right foot back some), and there will be times when the catcher is in "blocking mode" and will keep there stance more square to the pitcher.
