Lesson 12:
Short Toss Lateral Blocks
Pitches aren't alway bounced directly in front of the catcher. It is important to work on lateral blocks as well as that is much more realistic and game like.
A great way to get mass repetitions on lateral blocks is to have the coach or partner only about 10-15 feet away so they are more accurate and consistent. I call them Short Toss Lateral Blocks.
We want to practice staying square and not necessarily angling to make the ball go back toward home plate. As long as we keep the ball within an arms reach, that is all that matters. For breaking balls, we want to angle to prepare for the kickback but on fastballs, we want to stay square.
