Lesson 42:
Backhand Groundstroke | Consistency 9
This is a mental strength tennis game in which the player practices backhand groundstrokes consistency and placement under pressure.
The ball machine will feed balls deep to my backhand side.
I will practice hitting 9 balls in a row cross-court, then 9 balls in a row down-the-line, followed by 9 more alternating side to side; if at any point I miss a shot, I will replay the respective series of 9 balls from 0.
Use topspin (or slice) to control the ball depth, and get to the ball early for good body balance.
I chose 9 balls in a row for this drill, but you can go for any number that you find challenging; the cones I placed should be used as visual aids and not as targets to knock down.
Secret: To distract myself from negative thoughts that can occur when practicing under pressure, I found that counting every ball I get in, helps.
