Lesson 6:
Forehand Drop-Shot | Technique, Placement
This is a drill to practice forehand drop-shot: cross-court, down-the-line, and alternating side to side.
The drop-shot is a finesse shot that requires a soft touch, good feel for the court, racquet, and ball.
As you can see in the video, I have placed cones about 4 feet from the net as targets, but don’t try too hard to knock them.
From a technical point of view, when hitting drop-shots use a continental grip, prepare with the racket head higher than the eventual point of contact, open the racket face a bit more at contact for an extra slice so that the ball will bounce backward after the bounce; also consider catching the ball like the racquet was a pillow, and the ball an egg (cushion the ball at contact).
There are going to be plenty of times when you will need to hit a drop-shot, especially when playing singles.
Secret: Imagine somebody would throw an egg towards you; you want to catch the ball on the strings like it would be an egg - don't want to break it therefore you will try to soften (cushion) the contact.
