Lesson 9:
Backhand Volley | Technique, Placement
This drill helps you develop a good volley technique, placement, and consistency.
Technical elements to follow:
- continental/hammer grip;
- non-dominant elbow pointing toward the back fence (elevated);
- racquet head higher, above the shoulder;
- strings pointing towards the incoming ball;
- lock the wrist so that there is a 90-degree angle between the forearm and racquet;
- avoid taking the racquet too far back on the backswing and also try to stop the motion after contact;
- push the ball from high to low and forward to impart slice (under-spin).
Secret: Lock the wrist and lead with the elbow (dominant) on the initial path of the racquet to meet the ball.
