Lesson 56:
Around the Cone
For this drill, simply placing a cone at the baseline center and asking the player to circle it after each groundstroke makes the player get more workout and practice good recovery footwork.
The coach stands about halfway between service line and baseline, facing the player who begins at the baseline, behind the cone.
The coach will feed a few balls for the player to practice forehand groundstrokes, circling the cone after each shot. After about 10 repetitions, switch to the backhand side.
The drill can be used as a cardio drill if the player practices more than 20 balls in a row.
