Lesson 52:
Seven Balls
"Seven Balls" drill is the one that I've been using with my students of all levels - from beginning to advanced players.
It is great for practicing groundstrokes, court movement, and conditioning.
The coach feeds balls from one side, the player begins the drill from the left corner of the baseline and singles side line.
The coach will feed 7 balls in this pattern:
- 1 to the left baseline corner
- 1 to the baseline center
- 1 to the right baseline corner
- another 1 to the right baseline corner
- 1 to the baseline center
- 1 to the left baseline corner
- and 1 short ball somewhere inside the right service box (to which the player moves forward to get).
All the above strokes should be forehand groundstrokes.
The drill continues with another 7-ball series beginning from the right baseline corner; this time the player executes only backhand groundstrokes.
Do this pattern two times on each side (forehand and backhand): 7 forehands + 7 backhands + 7 forehands + 7 backhands.
