Lesson 45:
High Five
This is a creative way to familiarize beginning players with playing at the net and, eventually, to volley.
The player takes position at the net, about 3 feet away from it. The coach is on the other side having a basket of balls to feed from.
In the beginning, the player is introduced to the concept of "high five" which means to give a tap to a ball with her racquet.
Then, the coach will feed balls to which the player will give "high fives".
Towards the end, the player and coach will progress into a rally with the player tapping the ball in the air and the coach hitting "baby" groundstrokes back to the player.
