Lesson 12:
Royal Court
The Royal Court is a ball tracking, hand-eye coordination and footwork drill for beginning players.
The coach is behind the net having a basket of balls to feed from; the player begins at the back fence (opposite side from the coach) - in this video, the player starts the drill from the baseline, but I suggest the back fence as a starting point for the player.
The coach will feed the balls, one at a time, high; the player will have to run up to the ball and catch it after one bounce then place it on the racquet which is down on the ground.
Even though this drill seems easy, for beginning players it can be challenging tracking the ball while looking up and catching it after one bounce.
The coach can be creative sending the balls either really high, or short, deep, to the side, etc. Challenge the player to move and learn how to track the height and depth of the balls.
