Lesson 43:
O-U-T
"O-U-T" is a fun way to practice the serve and add a bit of competition between players.
Players line up behind the baseline and take turns serving.
If the first player hits the ball in, the next player must get it in as well, otherwise, she gets the letter "O".
The game continues in order, and as soon as one player serves the ball in, she puts pressure on the next player to make it in as well.
Every time a player misses the service court, they get a letter in order: "O", "U", and "T". When they spell O-U-T, the respective player is out of the game.
For the purpose of not just pushing the ball in, the players are required to add some pace to the serve as well: their ball should be in and bounce no more than 4 times (for young kids) or 2-3 times (for older kids) before hitting the back fence.
