There are two players: A at the baseline, and B on the opposite side at the service line. The coach (F) having a basket of balls to feed from is just inside the doubles alley on the same side as player B. (see graphic below)
Drill:
On the cue “go!”, the coach will feed a short ball to player A; at this time, player B must turn around and quickly run to touch his baseline and get back to play the drop shot that player A must begin the point with. The two play the point out.
Every rally begins in this manner; first to win 5 points then players switch sides and roles.
Note:
– this can be an exhausting exercise for player B therefore the coach should adjust the feed depth and pace according to players’ level and condition of play.
