There are two teams (team X and team O), lined up behind the baseline – one on the deuce, one on the ad side. Each player has a cone ready, placed on the side of the court. A basket of balls is just behind the baseline for players to use.
Drill:
One at a time, players will take turns serving a ball over the net. If their serve is in, they will take their respective cone and place it anywhere inside the service box they hit the ball to; if they missed their serve, they will go to the end of the line and allow the next player to take a turn.
As players get more serves in and the cones add up inside the respective service boxes, the team that succeeds in knocking 3 cones wins this game/race.
Note:
This is a fun way to practice the serve. The coach should stress the proper technique as players might rush through their serves to win.
