There is a team of two players (A and B) at the service line on one side; on the other side, player C is just inside the service line, his partner D begins the drill from the baseline (see graphic below).
Drill:
The ball is put in play by the A-B team who will drop and hit a short ball (inside the service box) for player D to move up and join his partner C at the net.
Once the ball is returned by D, the two teams play the point out having all players inside their respective service courts.
After each rally, player D moves back to the initial position at baseline and the point repeats with another short ball from team A-B (a basket of balls should be positioned close to A-B team for their convenience).
After either team wins 5 points, players rotate one spot clockwise and the drill repeats until every one will get to play from each spot.
Note:
– This is a good drill to teach and practice playing at the net, working together and quick decision making.
– The approaching player learns to take quick decisions in regard to placement; approaching net team learns to cover the court and call the shots.
