Tactical Purpose: Serve the ball wide and then attack a cross-court return from the opponent and direct the ball down the line for a put-away or aggressive attack.
Set-up: The coach is positioned on the right side doubles line with a basket of balls nearby. On the other side of the net, player A is ready to serve from the deuce side. She intends to serve the ball wide into the deuce side service box (in the direction of the coach).
Drill:
– Player A serves the ball wide into the deuce service box;
– The coach, as soon as player A’s serve passes him, will feed a ball cross-court which player A will attack and directs it aggressively down-the-line.
Repeat the drill 15 times then switch sides so that player A practices serving wide into the ad court also followed by an aggressive down-the-line attack.
Note: Player A uses slice serve from the deuce court and kick serve from the ad court (if right handed).
