Two players (A and B) begin the drill at the service line versus other two players (C and D) also at the service line, opposite sides. The rest of the players line up at one of the net posts (E, G, H etc.).
At the other net post, the coach stands and feeds balls from the basket, to begin the drill.
Drill:
At coach’s command, the players will run up to touch the net (with their racquets) and the first player to do that will receive the coach’s feed (high and deep to give time players to back up and get ready). This particular player will have to put the ball in play only after it bounces.
(While the fast player backs-up to retrieve the ball, the other players will move back also toward the baseline getting ready to play the point out)
Once the ball is in play, the teams battle it out on full court (alleys included).
When the point is over, the teams move back to the service line and on the coach’s cue they move up to the net; the fastest player to touch the net will receive the ball.
Score:
For every rally the teams win they get a point. First team to win 2 points will stay and the losing team will be replaced by the first team in the waiting line (or if they are an odd number, the first two players in line will replace the team that lost).
Notes:
The game is fun and allows players to practice their team work skills, doubles and court coverage tactics.
The waiting players can perform various exercises such as jumping jacks, ladder drills, etc.
