The coach (F) is just inside the ad service box having a basket of balls ready to feed from. The players line up behind the baseline center, opposite side from the coach.
Drill:
The coach will feed, for the first player in line, a short ball (short inside the deuce service box). The player will run up to hit or tap the ball over the net before it bounces twice.
As soon as he hits/taps the ball over the net, the player will run back to touch the baseline center. As the coach sees the player touching the baseline center, he’ll feed another short ball.
This pattern continues until the same player executes 3 balls running up and back between baseline center and short balls fed by the coach.
After the 3-ball series is done, the player can either run a lap around the court or pick up 3 balls before going back in line.
Next players in line do the same exercise once their turn comes.
Note:
– this is an excellent drill for body control, speed, and conditioning.
– it can be done on both the forehand and backhand sides (coach feeds the short ball inside the ad service box)
– the number of repetitions can be increased or decreased according to the number of players so that waiting in line is as short as possible.
