This drill is excellent for practicing moving up and net skills in singles. Recommended to intermediate and advanced level players.
Drill:
Player A is at the baseline, the rest of them are on the opposite side baseline, single file line. The coach (F) is just outside the doubles alley with a basket of balls to feed from – the same side as A.
The coach feeds 3 balls to the first player in line as follows:
1. short ball – player moves up towards the net; and plays the point out against the baseline opponent.
2. volley to the player at the net – plays the point out against the opposing baseline player.
3. lob for the player at the net to hit overhead – plays the point out against the baseline opponent.
Every time the approaching/net player wins a point he will count it. After the three points are over, the approaching/net player moves back to the end of the line making way for the next one to take his turn.
When a player accumulates 7 points won, he moves to the other side taking the place of the baseline player.
Notes:
– This is a fun competitive drill that 3 – 4 players can enjoy.
– Not recommended for large groups to avoid waiting for too long in line.
