Tactical Purpose: practice effective approach shots and good court coverage once at the net.
Set-up: Player A starts at the baseline center on one side, player B is on the other side at the baseline also. The coach is at one of the net posts with a basket of balls nearby.
Drill:
The coach feeds a short ball (that will be contacted just beyond the service line) toward player A. She will come up and hit an approach shot down the line following the ball to the net.
The two players (A and B) play the point out from there on.
Play first to win 7 points and then switch roles.
Note: Player A emphasises slice approach to keep the ball low; this tactic avoids an aggressive reply from player B.
