The player is at the baseline, the coach just inside the service line (opposite sides).
– The coach feeds a very short (1) ball for the player to run up (2) and bump it over the net (3)
– The coach feeds, right away, a lob (4) over the player to chase down (5) and hit back only after the ball bounces (6).
– Repeat this pattern two more times without having the player go back to the baseline: drop and lob.
Notes:
– depending on the number of players in the class, the coach can increase or decrease the number of “drop and lob” series a player must perform;
– it can be a good conditioning exercise that also improves speed and movement;
– this drill can be applied with one or large groups of players; if applied with large groups, have players perform different tasks after executing the drill so that the line wait is reduced to minimum.
